CLIENT: Personal Project
AD: Prina de Nooijer
This is a personal design project that celebrates nature, with a particular focus on the humble bee, the primary pollinator of many of our crops. I aimed to create a statement piece that immediately grabs attention through its use of color, bold lettering, composition, and illustration. The final design should be versatile and usable in various contexts.
To craft a statement piece that honors its subject, art, and craftsmanship, it has diverse uses and can be effortlessly expanded with multiple pieces in the same style.
This was definitely a passion project! My love for intricate lettering and illustration is well-known by now. When I saw this artwork by Jimbo Bernaus, it ignited my creativity, prompting me to replace the butterflies and strawberries with bees, apples, clover flowers, and a honeycomb-cutout background. I adore the cutout and cut-paper style and have played with it before (see lettering style secrets 2022 – day 19: Sans Serif & Strawberry). It fulfills all my preferences: versatile, playful, and fun! Created in Procreate, this artwork can also be easily redone in Adobe Illustrator when I need a scalable, larger version. I believe the final design will look fantastic everywhere, especially on bigger surfaces like walls or billboards. I’m eager to try mural painting, and an empty wall in my apartment is perfect for experimenting. I’ll keep you updated on the progress! If you’re interested in a custom mural, feel free to reach out—I’m excited to explore the possibilities.
