I have a passion for vintage lettering and illustration styles. To learn how to create compelling artworks in this vintage style, I took part in an online live workshop hosted by Goodtype in collaboration with Nick Misani. During the workshop, we drew inspiration from the past, specifically the Art Nouveau movement, which was popular in Europe from the late 19th to the early 20th century. Art Nouveau is known for its intricate details, craftsmanship, and flowing lines—all elements I love to incorporate into my work. My goal was to create a modern poster that hints at the past through the Art Nouveau style.
Nick provided us with a few sample phrases that fit well with the theme, and I chose “Tarte à la fleur d’Oranger” (orange blossom cake) because it resonated with me and sparked many creative ideas from the start. While researching, I came across this artwork and decided to use it as both a reference and an inspiration.

My goal was to craft a captivating, intriguing, and dynamic lettering piece that looks modern while honoring our history. It celebrates traditional craftsmanship and earlier artists, using the latest techniques because the world keeps turning, changing, and evolving—highlighting that to survive, one must embrace change without forgetting the past.
Through stylised, simple illustrations (clearly connected to the subject matter), the chosen color palette, and strategically placed decorative lines that guide the viewer through the piece and spotlight the essential parts, the result grabs attention and invites a second look.
By simplifying the lines, the whole design feels modern without losing its roots. The hand lettering is dynamic and exudes a sense of fun, incorporating flowing baselines, varying letter heights, and crossstrokes without sacrificing readability. A perfect blend of old and new, ready to be used in a variety of applications like packaging, book covers, and advertisements.
